Lḵoot Ka Áa (On the lake with abundance of food)

This is a name that is in reference to the Chilkoot village that sits below. The word Lkoot roughly translates to “cache of abundant fish.” There is a big sockeye salmon run here, and various Lkoot settlements have sat on the edges of the lake over the millennia. A carbon-dated bridge or weir board found near the mouth of the river suggests that people were living in this region 2,000 years ago, making this a significant historical site. [13]
