Aishihik Village is the most northerly community of the Champagne and Aishihik people. The village is situated at the northern end of Aishihik Lake, which is over 75 miles long. Archeological finds and oral histories suggest this village to be thousands of years old. The site was chosen because it is sheltered from the winds, and accesses good fishing, trapping, and hunting. The Tlingit people visited Aishihik as a trading center between Fort Selkirk and Klukwan. People here had strong ties to the Northern Tutchone as well [2].
