L’ukshú (End of the Coho Salmon)

“Coho come up the river from Yakutat and end here.” [3] For the Southern Tutchone, Klukshu is a very old and important seasonal fishing village. People would travel from places to the north to gather salmon in large quantities, prepare them, and take them back to their winter settlements. The fish were taken with respect, and the people were always sure to let a large proportion of the salmon runs through to Klukshu lake for the sustainability of the harvest.
