2.6 Million Acres: the Story of the Chilkat Tlingit’s Lands  Part 2 and 3

Join Klukwan Library Co-Director, Jamie Katzeek, as she shares the newest film project from the Klukwan Community and School Library. Part 2 and 3 of a 4 part documentary about the land history of the Chilkat Tlingits. 

Part 2 – Executive Order & Enlargement- In Part 2 we learn how the traditional territory of the Chilkat Tlingits beagan to shrink. As more people moved into the area, a road was built through Klukwan, we will learn the hardships that the ancestors had to go through.  Approx. 22 min. run time

Part 3 – The Land Claims & Omnibus Bill – In part 3, we discuss the origin of the land claims. Here we learn how the Tlingit & Haida Land Claims came to pass and how our ancestors were quick to realize that Klukwan’s ancestral lands were not included in these claims. We’ll hear from Ralph Strong about surface and subsurface rights, and how the village of Klukwan had opted out tof tparticipating in the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA). We’ll also hear form Edward Warren, Jr., who discusses his role in getting an amendment to ANSCA called the Omnibus Bill, which wiould allow Klukwan to participate Approx. 44 min run time.
