Learn by doing! Embrace culture and tradition! FREE 4 day 3 night cultural experience! Join the Chilkoot Indian association, Haines Library and many others for Culture and Environmental Stewardship Camp 2017. This camp will focus on immersion into Tlingit culture and tradition as we learn to observe indicators of environmental change in the world around us and embrace the value of traditional knowledge through hands on activities, leadership and teamwork.
Activities will include:
Paddle making and painting, fillet, and fresh pack salmon, traditional song and dance, water safety, time with elders, use of Tlingit language, leadership, team building and a focus on stewardship of the natural world and the idea that food is our way of life.
Open to all youth ages 9- 18. Day camp for students age 9-13 (10 spaces available)will take place from 9:30 am-4:00 pm. Overnight camp is for students age 14-18 (15 spaces available). Application required- pick one up at CIA or the Library. Limit 20 students.
Parent and adult chaperones needed.
